Making a Great Experience

The open-ended vasectomy provided by the Charlotte Center for Pelvic health is the most effective form of male sterilization. Don't worry though, we go to great lengths to ensure that you have the best experience possible. Not only is the pain a lot less than you might anticipate, but Dr. Hettiarachchi is one of the only dual-board certified urologists in the  Charlotte area.

1. Consultation

Dr. Hettiarachchi will discuss your medical history and perform a physical exam. He'll also answer any questions you may have about the procedure, potential risks/complications and the recovery process.

2. The Vasectomy Procedure

The no-needle, no-scalpel, open-ended vasectomy is the latest technique in male sterilization that is less intrusive, less painful and makes for a quicker recovery.

The vasectomy procedure begins with an innovative spraying technique that numbs the skin and the vas.

A single small opening is made on the skin to isolate the vas.

Open-Ended Vasectomy

The vas is managed using three methods to prevent rejoining:

  1. A segment of the vas is removed
  2. The ends of the vas are cauterized
  3. A tiny clip is placed over one of the ends

The skin is closed with a steri-strip (butterfly bandage). The opening is so small that no stitches are needed.

3. Departure

After your vasectomy, you are provided with an ice pack to assist in your recovery. Additional pain medication and an antibiotic may be prescribed.
