After Your Vasectomy
Now that you've had your vasectomy, there are a few things to keep in mind as you recover. Everything from from pain management, rest, what to wear and when you can engage in different types of activities are listed below.
If you have any questions or issues that arise, please give us as call at 704-775-8464.
The day of your procedure, make sure to use ice packs for the rest of the day, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Ice will help any swelling and discomfort.
Relax the day of your procedure. You can resume normal activity the following day and usually can go back to work after 48 hours. You can shower the day after your vasectomy. Don't lift anything heavier than five pounds the first 48 hours and do not lift heavy objects for a week.
What to Wear
It is recommended that you wear tight fitting, athletic underwear for a week after your vasectomy.
You can participate in sexual activity 5-7 days after your vasectomy.
Dr. Hettiarachchi will discuss with you in detail your exercise routine and develop a customized schedule for when you can get back to full activity.
Questions or Issues
We typically do not see patients back unless there they have questions or issues. However, Dr. Hettiarachchi and/or the staff of the Charlotte Center for Pelvic Health are available 24/7 via text or phone to answer any questions you may have. If any problems or complications arise, please call us at 704.775.8464.
You are not sterile until we receive results from a semen analysis. The analysis is ordered by the doctor, so please call our office after 30-40 ejaculations or three months, the average time it takes for sperm to clear. The analysis is available at a local lab using insurance or via a mail in kit that can be purchased ($30) at MaleFromHome.com
